Larger Than Life

Today's challenge was to make a bright, cheery photo outdoors.

This was a challenge since it was a craptacular overcast and drizzly day. I headed to the local community park to take photos of the bright, over-sized flowers and butterflies found in the water park area. Thankfully, the park was deserted and I was able to snap away without having parents think I'm some creeper takin' photos of their kids (sidenote: Does anyone else encounter this? How do you get around this? It seems to be a touchy subject and I'm not sure how to deal with it other than avoiding these areas.......but I digress). I loved how the bright orange colour in the flower and butterfly really stand out against the dull grey sky......I had a hard time choosing a photo and I decided to post some of the other contenders on my blog: http://magneticmags365.tumblr.com/ .

"Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive."

Today's challenge was to make a photograph of a plant. I found this weed growing on the side of my neighbour's house and noticed the large webs that the spiders had recently spun. Upon closer observation, I thought it interesting to see how the weeds had been intricately woven into the web. I loved how the water drops reflected the light appearing as glittering crystal in the flower bed.

Tamarindo Treasures

Today was my birthday and as per usual, it rained buckets. But I didn't let that stop my fun! Guy surprised me with some champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the afternoon and later on that night, a birthday cake complete with the staff singing "Happy Birthday" in spanish......

In the afternoon, I took a quick (but bumpy) cab ride into Tamarindo to peruse the shops for some unique finds. Sadly, every shop seemed to carry the same tacky souvenirs but I did quite enjoy the character and colours of the shops and enjoyed watching all the barefoot surfers stroll around town with their surf boards in tow.... I wanted to take a stroll on the beach in hopes of capturing one of the infamous sunsets, unfortunately, the rain came pouring down and dusk had started to come and as we were warned, walking along the beach in Tamarindo at night wasn't the safest thing to do....All in all, I enjoyed the sights, smells and sounds that the small town had to offer.......

Happier Than A Pig In Mud

Today started off with heavy rains but by mid-day, the sun came out and left the air thick and humid. I decided to get some fresh air on my lunch and took the boss' toy pig (Babe) outside for a photoshoot in the mud.

Gorgeous Gerberas

After a few days of using the P&S, I decided to pull out the DSLR and shoot a few pics of stuff outside before it started to rain again. I came across these gorgeous gerberas planted in a container along the side of my neighbour's house . I edited the colours a bit to really emphasize the large bloom.

A bit of information on these beautiful blooms: Gerberas are an ornamental plant from the sunflower family and are very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. In fact, it is the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after the rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip).

Caught In The Act...............

After the heavy downpour and thunderstorm earlier this evening, I decided to venture out and capture some photos of the drenched garden. It wasn't until after I downloaded the photos that I noticed these two bugs going at it while the third one in the background seemed to be looking on. I'm not sure what these little pests are; however, am NOT to pleased that they seem to be destroying my lilies in the process. Anyone know what they are and how I can get rid of them?

Wicked Spring Weather

Taken from my iPhone, this picture captures the heavy rain and the bright flash from the lightning bolt. The winds were very gusty as the cold rain came down in sheets making driving conditions a bit dicey at times. It certainly feels more like the cold November rains rather than warm spring showers. This weekend is supposed to feel quite cool.  Figures....gorgeous weather throughout the week and craptacular weather on the weekend.  Let's hope it's not going to be one of those summers........
